During the 2023-2024 school year, we will highlight our AMAZING Martinsville District Staff! Each one of our staff members began teaching for a reason and we've asked them to walk down memory lane and "REMEMBER YOUR WHY"...enjoy this story about 5th grade teacher Bethani Conzen...
Bethani Conzen, 5th Grade Teacher attended Olivet Nazarene University/Grand Canyon University. She studied Elementary Education in undergrad and is working on a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction.
Mrs. Conzen said, “I love that the Martinsville School District is home. There is big emphasis on creating a family. We support each other and work hard. We have pride in our small school!”
When asked what she loves most about working with her students she said, “I love it when they take an active role in their learning. When students get excited about what they are learning, they put forth their best effort. It is so much fun to see those light bulb moments!”
Mrs. Conzen said she chose the field of education “because I love working with kids. Kids are fun! I didn't choose education until the summer before I left for college. As soon as I started classes and began volunteering in various after school programs, I knew it was the right decision.”
One of my favorite success stories is with a "student who was having a hard time and it was difficult to make a connection with them. I suggested this student keep a journal and write the things that were going on. They began the journal and it opened up a way for us to connect. This student would give me the journal when they wanted me to read/listen. We began to communicate more and it provided the student a safe space to share their story. I'll always remember that!”
