During the 2023-2024 school year, we will highlight our AMAZING Martinsville District Staff! Each one of our staff members begin teaching for a reason and we've asked them to walk down memory lane and "REMEMBER YOUR WHY"...enjoy this story about 2nd grade teacher, Kim Skidmore…
Mrs. Skidmore, 2nd grade teacher, attended Eastern Illinois University and obtained a degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in Mathematics. She loves Martinsville Elementary because “the students are all so sweet, and there are very few discipline problems! I love teaching at the school I attended as a child also.” She said she enjoys watching students learn and grow; “I love it when they have so much fun learning, and when they say how much they love school! I also love it when they learn a new concept.”
When asked why she became a teacher, Mrs. Skidmore said, “I love working with kids. It is always something new each day. There are always interesting stories and always a lot of laughs each day. I knew that it would never be boring.”
Mrs. Skidmore shared how she enjoys seeing kids succeed and have their “ah ha” moments…”I have had several students who struggled so much with reading; they finally were successful and they weren't able to put books down. They started to love reading. It has been so rewarding seeing these students be successful and to simply love to read when at the beginning of the year they were unable to.”
Thank you Mrs. Skidmore for helping our students learn to love reading! We are thankful for your compassion for our students!
