During the 2023-2024 school year, we will highlight our AMAZING Martinsville District Staff! Each one of our staff members begin teaching for a reason and we've asked them to walk down memory lane and "REMEMBER YOUR WHY"...enjoy this story about Counselor, Alisha Lowry…

Alisha Lowry, District Counselor and Athletic Director, attended both Indiana State University and Eastern Illinois University and majored in elementary education and school counseling.
Mrs. Lowry is also a graduate of Martinsville.

When asked what she loves the most about Martinsville schools, she said, “I love the small school atmosphere where I can walk through the hallways and in classrooms and know every single student by name. I love that when I see the students in the community, at sporting events, or church, I always get a smile or wave.

Mrs. Lowry added, “I enjoy helping students focus on how little steps can make a big impact in their lives. I enjoy helping students set achievable goals and see the kids reach them. I love seeing them solve problems and become independent thinkers and lifelong learners. I love when students I have worked with make the good choices we have talked and talked about, and help them realize they are worthy of good things and deserve to have a good life. Ultimately, I love being the person (maybe the only person) who believes in them.”

Mrs. Lowry said she chose education because “I love helping people. It is rewarding to help students solve problems, set goals, plan for their futures and see the progress they are making. I have a passion for seeing the underdog win and love helping students reach their full potential. It is extremely rewarding to see students be successful when the odds are stacked against them. I love to be the cheerleader and biggest fan of those students who don't fit the mold, who aren't raised in a two-parent home, who have been dealt a pretty crummy life. Those students are my favorites because when you show them you believe in them and they reach their full potential and are they successful, even in small ways, it is something to be celebrated.” She added, “It is rewarding for former students to reach out and tell me how much I impacted their lives when they were in school. It is sometimes those moments that you don't think you are making a difference when you are impacting their lives in ways you had no idea.”

The district is so fortunate to have Mrs. Lowry cheering on and helping our students succeed. As we recognize School Counseling week, we’d like to thank Mrs. Lowry for her tireless efforts to help Martinsville students!
