ACCUPLACER is a series of tests that evaluate students’ skills in reading, writing, and math to help college administrators place them in courses that match their skills. Their website says that "ACCUPLACER scores let students know where they stand academically, which makes it easier for them to plan a successful path toward a college degree. Tests within the ACCUPLACER suite are delivered over the internet and are used extensively by high schools, community colleges, four-year colleges, and technical schools around the world. The ACCUPLACER test scores are used to inform college placement decisions and to identify where students are likely to be positioned or likely to succeed within a postsecondary course framework."
MHS students have a record of doing quite well on the ACCUPLACER Math test resulting in a success rate of obtaining not only dual credit for a HS course, but preparing them for college algebra/trigonometry. For the 23-24 school year, MHS students had a 100% passage rate while some Illinois high schools saw only an 80% rate. Mr. Penrod, MHS Math Instructor, is pleased that his students earned top honors this year and believes that they will excel in college math courses after having been prepped in high school resulting in college level readiness. Mr. Penrod added, "they will be earning 6 credit hours upon successful completion of this course giving them a head start in their college careers."
