During the 2023-2024 school year, we will highlight our AMAZING Martinsville District Staff! Each one of our staff members began a career in education for a reason and we've asked them to walk down memory lane and "REMEMBER YOUR WHY". Today you’ll learn about Connie Lang, Pre-K teacher, who is in her final year at MES…

Mrs. Connie Lang serves as the only preschool teacher at MES. She attended EIU and studied Special Education. She loves Martinsville because it is such a “family oriented district.”

She most enjoys all the “hugs and I love you” comments that she receives daily!

When asked why she chose education as a career, Mrs. Lang said, “I struggled in school and did not enjoy it. After my husband talked to me about the need of special education teachers, I decided to give it a try. I find myself in a lot of the students that are struggling. If I had been given the extra help in school, things may have not be so difficult for me. I want to be able to give my students the extra help they need in order to succeed.”

One of her fondest stories about being education includes one from many years ago in another district. “A student from a former high school came up to me before he left for the service and told me that if it wasn't for me turning him in for drug use, that he wouldn't be here. He thanked me for everything that I had done for him. Tears rolled down my eyes as he left. I would love to know where he is and what he is doing now.”

Thank you Mrs. Lang for your compassion for students and your years of service at MES; we wish you well in your upcoming retirement!
