Martinsville 8th graders recently had the opportunity to tour the LIFT program in Mattoon and attend the EIEFES Career Conference held at Lake Land College.

Leaders Innovating for Tomorrow (LIFT) is in Mattoon, IL and provides programs of study for juniors/seniors. Programs include certification in:

Childcare

Communications

Culinary Arts & Hospitality

HVAC & Green Energy

Information Technology

Leadership Institute

Manufacturing, Architecture, Construction, & Electrical

Following the tour, students made their own personal pizzas in the culinary area of the center.

After lunch, students then traveled to Lake Land for the EIEFES Career Conference. The goal of the Grade Career Conference is to provide 8th graders with information and motivation as they begin to develop their career plan. Students began the conference by hearing from Brooks Harper, a career development expert, about the importance of having a goal and inspiring students to take charge of their own future success. Students then had the opportunity to speak with local career professionals and Lake Land College program teachers to learn about skills and education required by various occupations.

Thanks to Mrs. Parker for arranging the tour of both the LIFT program and LLC...great opportunities for junior high students to see what path their high school career can take once they become upper classmen!
