MHS Athletes had the privilege of listening to a former collegiate athlete during a forum on "WINNING THE RECRUITING PROCESS" presented by: Moaso Djogi Bumba, former NCAA athlete and Carthage College Alum. His siblings will have competed in every NCAA Division. He played alongside and against numerous current professional athletes and is currently a Business Systems Consultant. Mr. Bumba resides in Marshall.

Mr. Bumba shared with the athletes tips on how to be recruited...he discussed the three different structures all within college athletics. The information he presented included:

The Structure of College Sports:

NCAA

NAIA

NJCAA

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is grouped into 3 divisions (DI, DII, DIII).

Each division has its own academic requirements along with expected time commitments. Students earn 4-year bachelor degrees and can continue their education.

National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) is a governing body for small athletic programs. Top-level NAIA programs match the talent found at mid/high-level NCAA D2 schools. Less academically competitive than NCAA requirements. Also, fewer scholarships available when compared to NCAA. Students earn 4-year bachelor degrees.

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) is also grouped into 3 divisions (DI, DII, DIII). Students who attend them can earn two-year associate degrees, earn certificates, take courses with plans to transfer to a university to earn a bachelor's degree, and take vocational and technical classes.

Thanks to Mr. Bumba for all of the great tips for students seeking a path of collegiate sports!
