Senior Emily Callahan has been working at Marshall Subway as part of the School to Work program. Melody Storey, Subway manager, reports that Emily "is reliable, trustworthy, and I can count on her; I have so much confidence in her work ethic and know that if I'm not here, she can take care of things." She added: "I have so much confidence in her ability that she is often the store closer and she has trained other recent hires."

Emily suggests that people who are "looking to develop skills, have a part-time job, or be part of a family" should consider working at Subway. There are currently 11 employees that staff the Marshall Subway.

Melody said that Emily had to go through several hours of sanitation training prior to doing 25 hours of hands-on training in order to work shifts. On average, Emily works 20-30 hours per week. She works daytime/evening and weekend shifts. Working at Subway has strengthened Emily's math skills and customer relation skills. She also said that what she loves most about working at Subway is that "we are like a family; I even have a work 'mom' here...even on days I'm not scheduled to work, I come in and help anyway. It would be a great summer job for anyone looking."

We are grateful that our students have businesses who are willing to give students employment opportunities!
