Thanks to Penny Shaw of Flying S of Palestine, IL who presented at a Career Forum at MHS this week. According to their website, Flying S is "hidden in the rural Midwest, in an unsuspecting metal building" with a team of engineers, machinists and various technicians ready for almost any rapid prototype or manufacturing project you could dream. Additionally, "the Flying S team is able to fabricate anything from carbon fiber aircraft wings to intricate molds and machined parts. To ensure quality and efficiency they are equipped to complete an entire project from raw materials to painted product in their facility."

Flying S provides career exploration through their aerospace career nights, job-shadowing opportunities, cadet/rookie workshops, and public tours. Flying S is very involved in Crawford County and surrounding areas supporting other businesses, schools, civic organizations, and more. Recently, Penny Shaw purchased the Mullen's salad dressing company and is expanding the business by adding ranch flavored dressing in the future. Heavily involved in marketing, global networking, technology, and space exploration tools, Penny says that their ideas "were big", but they started small in just one barn in the middle of the family farm. Their workforce is a "family" and future applicants must be people who take pride in their work. Their most successful candidates must be willing to learn, have integrity and a good attitude.

Thanks to Flying S for coming to Martinsville and sharing information about how their products are literally everywhere in the world (including outer space)!
