Marcy Satterwhite of Lake Land College presented at a recent College/Career Forum at MHS to spread the word about their Graphic Design major. Marcy noted, "I feel this program is an ideal match to students who enjoy creating page layouts or working with digital photography or creating artistic pieces. As a faculty member in the Business Division for 27 years, I have had the pleasure of watching Lake Land students develop expertise in the Adobe Suite of software which is the industry standard for creating digital designs using Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign. We provide an opportunity for them to work in a graphics lab on both Windows and Macintosh platforms. We also have digital drawing tablets and a color printer in our graphics lab. During the program we assist them in creating a valuable portfolio and resume materials to showcase their skills. Our small classes allow our instructors to get to know our students and help them navigate their college experience."
She gave students flyers about the program and showed a video of their graduates who now have lucrative careers and own their own businesses. Marcy added, "on campus, students will have the opportunity to tour and print several of their designs in the on-campus print shop using a variety of print materials. Students can also enhance their skills by working for the award-winning student newspaper called The Navigator. There are paid positions in a variety of areas from layout to photography to illustrations and writing."
Thanks to Marcy for speaking to our students and HS Business teacher Ms. Henn about the opportunities at Lake Land College!
