During the 2023-2024 school year, we will highlight our AMAZING Martinsville District Staff! Each one of our staff members begin teaching for a reason and we've asked them to walk down memory lane and "REMEMBER YOUR WHY"...enjoy this story about 1st grade teacher, Dana Poston…

Dana Poston, 1st grade teacher at MES attended Lincoln Trail College and EIU to obtain a degree in Elementary Education. When asked what she loves about Martinsville the most she said, “I love how our entire staff rallies together and are like a family. When I first started at MES 7 years ago I was new to Martinsville and every staff member was so welcoming. My husband was in a terrible car accident that year in September. Two teenagers in the other car died. You can imagine what we went through! SO MUCH GRIEF! The next few weeks at work I was showered with love, cards, gift cards, money, etc. They didn't know me yet, but it didn't matter. MES takes care of each other regardless of the situation. During Christmas "Santa" surprised me with a stocking filled with around $300. I can go on and on!”

She said she enjoys all of the “I love yous” that she hears each day from her students. Mrs. Poston added, “I've always wanted to become a teacher. For sometime I didn't think it was in God's plan. I was an aide for 12 years in Robinson and jobs came and went. I finally applied to schools within a 45 minute drive from me. It was Martinsville that finally gave me a chance!”

Mrs. Poston noted, “a student I had several years ago still gives me hugs EVERY time she sees me. She frequently tells me that she wants to be back in my class. This makes my heart happy. I’m so glad I could provide stability for her since she has had some difficulties in life.”

Thank you Mrs. Poston for being that safe and stable place for 1st graders to learn and grow! We are so glad you are part of the MES family!
