During the 2023-2024 school year, we will highlight our AMAZING Martinsville District Staff! Each one of our staff members began teaching for a reason and we've asked them to walk down memory lane and "REMEMBER YOUR WHY"...check out 6th grade teacher Amanda Gullquist who shares her “Why”...
Amanda Gullquist attended EIU with a field of study in elementary education with a middle level endorsement.
She said she loves Martinsville because “the small town feel and how all of the staff work with each other. I always know that I can turn to my fellow workers for help and they are willing help, whether it is by giving advice, laughing with you, or sitting down with you to help you get through something.”
She enjoys working with students and said, “I love when you see the light bulb go off and a smile goes across their face. I also like how students encourage each other and cheer when they see their friends’ accomplishments.”
Mrs. Gullquist said “I chose this field after being a substitute for many years and a one on one aide while my son was younger. After a few years of doing this, I could not imagine doing anything else and decided it was time for me to obtain my teaching degree. It was a long journey as I had already received a Bachelor's Degree in Community Health and it added an extra two years of college. Even though it took a lot of sacrifices, I am very glad that I did it!”
Some of Mrs. Gullquists favorite moments are when “I see former students and they come up and tell me what they remember about my class and what they learned while having fun. I also love when they want to still give you a hug or high five even though they are older. It is then that you realize that you made a difference and all of the hard work is worth it!”
We are so glad you are part of the MES team!
