During the 2023-2024 school year, we will highlight our AMAZING Martinsville District Staff! Each one of our staff members began teaching for a reason and we've asked them to walk down memory lane and "REMEMBER YOUR WHY"...check out Title I teacher Rachel Johnson who shares her “Why”...
Mrs. Johnson studied Elementary Education at SIUE and EIU. She said she “loves working in Martinsville because it is a family environment.” She added, “watching your students grow and learn is the best; but, it is also fun to get to know them so well over the years. Teaching Title I have had a lot of opportunity to get to know the students from working in the library, pushing in the classes, and small group interventions.”
Mrs. Johnson said, “there are a lot of teachers in my family and I knew from a young age that I would follow in their footsteps.” She also added a bit about her favorite memories… “When the first graders who are struggling learning sight words finally conquer their list, when students that have told me how much they dislike reading find that "right" book that just makes their eyes light up and they love it. There are also the times when you have watched a child work so hard over a long period of time and it "clicks"; when it is no longer a stressor and learning is something they can enjoy…those are my favorite moments.”
We are so glad you are a part of the MES family…thanks for fostering a love of reading in our students!
