During the 2023-2024 school year, we will highlight our AMAZING Martinsville District Staff! Each one of our staff members began a career in education for a reason and we've asked them to walk down memory lane and "REMEMBER YOUR WHY".
Today you’ll hear about Rebecca Monk, Library/Technology and Cafeteria Aide. Miss Becca attended Lincoln Trail College for an Associate’s Degree and is currently attending Grand Canyon University to get a degree in Elementary Education.
Miss
Becca says that she loves how MES “is a big family! Everyone knows each other and is always willing to help in a time of need.”
One of the things she loves most about working with children is “seeing them grow as individuals in all parts of their lives. Being active in the community gives me an opportunity to watch them grow in so many ways.”
Miss Becca shares how she got into the field of education: “It's a very interesting story! I was working at a local hospital just a few shifts a month. I called the school to ask about substitute teaching. When I called, they said there was an opening for an aide position for the library/cafeteria. I applied thinking I have no knowledge in the education world! All of my knowledge is ‘moms and babies’. I got the job! I love my job so much I decided to return to school myself for a teaching degree in Elementary Education.”
She added, “This year I have been able to see multiple students meet their reading goals. They thought they could reach the 10-point goal. With some encouragement and someone cheering them on, they realized they could reach the 10-point goal. They have actually gone past the 10 points. It is so rewarding to see them work so hard to accomplish the goal and you can see the confidence brighten their faces.”
Thanks Miss Becca for being such a great “cheerleader” to all of the little ones at MES! So glad you joined the MES family!
