For the 2024-2025 school year, we are asking MHS Alumni to submit why they will be "Forever a Bluestreak"...here is the first submission from Brianna (Annie) Marshall, Martinsville HS 2001, Lake Land College 2003, EIU Bachelor of Arts Social Studies Teacher Certification 2006, EIU Master of Arts Gerontology 2014.

"Growing up as a Bluestreak instilled a sense of small-town pride, community, and a desire to help others throughout my life’s journey. The desire to make a difference in the lives of others led me to work for the State in various roles as a Case Adjudicator, Department of Corrections Educator, DCFS Case Worker, and now as a High School Social Studies Teacher.

My passion for life-long learning came from so many wonderful teachers and coaches that had a big impact on my life. Some of those educators include Mr. Liggett, Mrs. Wolfe, Mrs. Cribelar, Mrs. Norton, Mr. Shackelford, Mrs. Weir, Coach Wible, and Coach Lehman. They all inspired, pushed, led, and encouraged me to be the best I can be. Even so many years later (more than I care to admit, lol), I try to apply the things I learned from them to my daily teaching tenure.

If I listed every good Bluestreak memory, this blurb would be pages and pages long. Many wonderful memories were made playing basketball and softball. Countless hours were spent laughing and hanging out with friends. FBLA with Mrs. Weir and the trip to Long Beach, California to compete in Nationals for Impromptu Speaking was extremely special. Getting to play Lucy in the musical my Senior Year and being crowned Homecoming Queen were also some of my favorite Bluestreak memories. I always loved the Homecoming Parade and the feel of fall in the air, football games, and getting into some mischief with friends and classmates.

Outside of teaching, I am a mother of four. My children keep me very busy and they are the joy of my life! I feel so blessed in the many roles I play as a mother, teacher, sister, daughter, and friend. Being a Bluestreak helped to shape who I am today, and I am grateful for that!"

Thank you for your submission Annie!
