Seniors Angel Heleine and Brylee Reed are two students in a dual credit course called Health Occupations. Eastern Illinois Education for Employment Systems offers a unique opportunity for juniors and seniors interested in the healthcare field - the Health Occupations program. This dual-credit course, taught at Horizon Hospital in Paris, Illinois, is offered through a partnership with Lake Land College.
The Health Occupations program is designed for students who aspire to become Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs). Over the course of the school year, participants engage in a comprehensive curriculum that includes classwork, tests, clinical experiences, and career exploration.
From August to March, students focus on mastering the skills and knowledge required to become a CNA. They learn the ins and outs of the role while putting their newfound abilities into practice during clinical rotations. In March, students take the CNA certification exam, and those who pass can immediately begin working as nursing assistants.
The final two months of the program are dedicated to career exploration. During this time, students have the chance to investigate various medical fields and assist in tasks that a CNA is qualified to perform.
"This program is a fantastic opportunity for students who have a passion for healthcare," said Carol Cline, RN-Health Occupations Program Instructor with Eastern Illinois Education For Employment Systems . "Not only do they earn college credit, but they also leave with a valuable CNA certification that can open doors to future careers in the medical industry."
