Three MHS students (Kia Crutchfield, Kamryn Remlinger, Landry Price) work at MES in a real world experience through the School to Work Program (STW). Two of the three STW students plan on becoming teachers. They are assisting Mrs. Carver with a Math RtI program by working with elementary students. Mrs. Carver, who oversees the elementary program said that "the high school students are each working with small groups of students on Math. Before beginning to work with the small groups, we had a discussion about the purpose of the Math RtI program, confidentiality, and professionalism." She also commented that "the elementary students look up to the high school students and enjoy working with them. I think the high school students enjoy working with the elementary students as well. For the two who are going into education, it gives them experience that can help solidify the fact that they do want to go into education, and are building skills they can use in the future. For the high school student who is not considering education as a career, she is still receiving work experience and building skills she can use in the future in any career. Whether or not someone is going into education, the high school students learn valuable skills and develop a good work ethic that can be applied in almost any work situation or career. I am truly enjoying working with the high school students."
Thank you Mrs. Carver for giving MHS students this experience!
