Garrett Branson, MHS alum, shares why he is 'Forever a Bluestreak'...
"When I was presented with the question as to why I am proud to be Forever a Bluestreak, a number of answers came to mind, but perhaps none were more prevalent than mentors and role models.
Growing up in a small community like Martinsville presents a unique opportunity to foster relationships between community leaders and its youth; my upbringing was heavily influenced by this relationship. I was blessed to have been surrounded with teachers that cared about both my academic success, as well as success within my personal life, and they demonstrated this both in words and actions.
Within athletics I was mentored by great men and role models who helped shape me into the person that I am today. I feel as though the work ethic that these coaches instilled in me is responsible for a large amount of the success I have enjoyed in my adult life. I am still in touch with many of these coaches on a regular basis and I never miss an opportunity to thank them for the impact they had on me.
Outside of school and within the community I was fortunate to have role models in local law enforcement who encouraged me to pursue my dreams of working in the field. I owe a great deal of credit to these men that I get to work in my dream profession on a daily basis.
I credit a great deal of the person I have become today to my upbringing in Martinsville and that is why I am proud to be Forever a Bluestreak."
Thank you for your submission Garrett and we thank you for your law enforcement service to the community!
