A special Bluestreak Aunt visited MES from Nigeria. D'Anna Shotts is a missionary living in Africa and she took the time to share her experiences and offer insight into a culture different than Martinsville. D'Anna wowed students and staff with each item she pulled from her traveling trunks. Students felt the red sand from the Sarah Dessert. They learned about the various animals living in Africa (with D'Anna sharing she had 2 cobras in her yard that had to be removed). Students enjoyed playing the African instruments as well. MES would like to thank "Aunt" D'Anna. It's awesome to know there are Bluestreaks all over the world.

It's hard to believe we are beginning the second semester of the 23-24 school year. The first semester was amazing, and I cannot wait to see what the next year holds for the super students at MES. The teachers and staff are ready to go with many exciting projects and adventures. With the help of our parents, families, and community we know this semester will be filled with fun, success, and memories to hold forever. STAR Reading is a very important part of our daily curriculum. Students need to read every day. You can read to your child or have your child read to you, but it is so important our students are reading every day not only at school but at home as well. Set aside time each night for reading. Reading with your child before going to bed is a great way to create a routine. Be sure to encourage your child as they read and make new progress. Positivity is so important in reading growth and achievement. The IAR State Testing will quickly be approaching and I know MES 3rd - 6th grade students will rock it! Testing will begin March 18th - 22nd, but preparations to make this the best testing year have begun. IAR testing scores are used to track the personal growth and success of your child from year to year. Ask your child how they are preparing for the test. Stay involved with your child's daily activities and communicate with your child's teacher to share in their knowledge, success, and excitement for learning. We are looking forward to the rest of the year at Martinsville Elementary!
